Biography
The story of Nick the developer
The story
My name is Nick, and I am thrilled to present a major update to my portfolio website! It now includes a fresh design and is powered by Laravel 10 under the hood. Additionally, I'm excited to showcase new projects I'm currently working on. I hope you enjoy exploring it!
The reason for the update is that the code had become outdated, and the content hadn't been refreshed for quite some time. As time passed, I found myself in a new job situation, where I had the opportunity to develop several new apps over the past few years. Therefore, the update was long overdue.
In 2021, I took the step to start working as an independent software developer alongside my job as an employee. I have always had a passion for software development and have gained a lot of experience in the software industry over the past few years. However, I felt the need to have more freedom and control over my work, so I decided to also use my skills and knowledge in software development as an independent contractor.
As an independent software developer, I am able to develop high-quality custom software for a wide range of clients. I have a keen eye for detail and always strive for the highest quality standards.
In addition to developing software, I also have a special interest in automating software quality checks. I believe that automating tests and checks not only saves time and costs but also improves the quality of the software and reduces the likelihood of errors. I have extensive knowledge of various tools and technologies to achieve automation of software quality checks and work closely with my clients to ensure that their software meets the required standards.
In addition to my work as an independent software developer, I also still work part-time as an employee. It can be a challenge to combine both roles, but I believe it is important to continue developing both aspects of my career. As an employee, I have experienced that working with colleagues can lead to a broadening of insights. By sharing opinions and perspectives, we can inspire and challenge each other to think beyond our own ideas. Reflection and feedback from colleagues help me improve my own beliefs and work methods, contributing to more creativity and innovation in our work.
In March 2015, I embarked on a new challenge as a Senior Software Engineer at CCV shop. My role involves developing and maintaining (new) features for our webshop platform, which supports over 15,000 active webshops. This platform comprises:
- Webshop
- API
- Backoffice tool
- App store
- Reseller panel
My previous job was at trajectplanner.nl in Deventer, where I worked for the past 5 years as a software engineer and database administrator. My main responsibilities included developing new modules for their student management system, which supports over 45 educational institutions and serves more than 150,000 users.
Trajectplanner is a comprehensive student and educational management system that facilitates various school processes, such as course planning, scheduling, student registration, and electronic learning environments.
During my free time, I indulge in working on Arduino projects, which includes home automation and RC vehicle telemetries, among other things. These projects allow me to explore my passion for technology and continue to develop my skills outside of my professional life.
